Residential Clients
ATCO relies on its EcoSense program to solve residential pest problems with environmentally safe methods and products. This “Green Pest Management” (GPM) approach is based upon the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) philosophy developed through the EcoWise system.
Following EcoWise guidelines, ATCO technicians work with clients in a decision-making process that includes customers’ understanding of pest problems. ATCO technicians use their knowledge of pest biology, behavior and environmental factors to evaluate problems and recommend successful management strategies.
Inspection is followed by treatment using both physical methods (vacuum, steam and web removal) and environmentally friendly products (insect baits, natural insecticides, essential plant oils and minerals). ATCO uses synthetic chemicals only as a last resort.
Institutional and Commercial Clients
ATCO’s technicians apply the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles and practices consistent with ATCO’s EcoWise certification to the management of pest problems for its commercial clients. The IPM process is the least harmful approach to pest management for people and the environment.
Relying on thorough knowledge of pest life cycles as well as the habits and conditions affecting the pest population, IPM works within the pest’s environment to eliminate the causes of invasion. Removal of food, water and hiding places of pests, the use of physical methods (traps, repairs, sanitation) and application of safe biological controls are the primary tools of IPM.
Frequent and regular communication with customers is an essential element of long-term pest management. ATCO educates and partners with its customers to achieve the best outcomes possible. ATCO technicians stay up to date on pest populations through ongoing monitoring and inspections, collecting and recording data during follow-up visits.
ATCO stands apart from other pest control companies in its reliance on the principles of IPM in the planning and delivery of services. IPM is used to determine the need for pesticide application in an environmentally sensitive manner based on pest conditions, not on predetermined schedules. ATCO’s process involves keeping a close eye on each individual situation, maintaining the important connection between a pest problem and its solultion. By practicing IPM, ATCO keeps pesticide use to the bare minimum when it is required.
Continued evaluation and education are the final steps in the IPM process. EcoWise standards are set by independent process developers working together with local government, industry leaders, business owners and non-profit organizations to protect our shared environment.
